Guisborough Town FC would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and an update on where we stand going into 2012 appears below to let everyone know the results of our well publicised problems.
Back in August a new committee was elected and the first concern was the accounts and Richard Bloomfield, a well known and respected barrister who hass helped several Northern League clubs, was invited to help scrutinise all aspects of them. He attended the general meeting where the members voted to accept the accounts with the exception of some alleged debts on the balance sheet so that these could be investigated further.
While this was going on the club was rocked with the threat to switch off the electric supply and other debtors followed suit. These included debts which had been on the accounts for a number of years such as a sportswear company who was owed over £10000 and several debt collection agencies soon were in contact with the club.
A public meeting was called and a fund raising exercise commenced which suceeded thanks to the genorousity of so many people as within 2 months all proven priority debts were settled meaning we can end the year knowing the future is secure and looking bright for the club. We thank every single one of those people who donated monies.
We are also indebted to Richard for all the legal advice and support he is giving the club
We also thank the committee for their work during a difficult time and people who are not part of the committee such as Andy Willis and Chris Garbutt who have shown tremendous support for the club not just now but over the years. Our thriving Junior section helped us with ideas etc and deserve thanks and support.
It shows that Guisborough Town FC that is a club that is united with a hard working committee and great support base within and outside the club.
A fuller press release is currently being prepared and will be released shortly.
We now look forward to 2012 a much brighter year with lots of exciting things planned hoping to bring the community back into Guisborough Town FC.
Two goals each by Prioryman Mikey Roberts and Collier Phil Bell meant the result was a draw.

Special ‘Celebration of Youth’ Event -
King George V Stadium, Guisborough Saturday 17 December (and Roary the Lion was there too!!!)
Guisborough Town FC staged a ‘rip-roaring’ day for junior footballers and grown-ups alike at their home Northern League Division One match against Ashington on Saturday, 17 December 2011.
A host of budding young footballers and their families attended the exciting festive event which swelled the normal match attendance by more than double. The afternoon featured a host of special activities plus a ‘guest star’ appearance by Middlesbrough FC’s official mascot, Roary the Lion.
The club function suite was designated a family room for the day in case there are any parents who feel uncomfortable with children in bars.
Roary the Lion arrived at the ground prior to the kick-off. Members of Guisborough Town’s junior football teams – all nine of them ranging from Under-7s to Under-16s – were involved in a range of different initiatives, including decorating the club stand with
homemade flags, with a competition to judge the best ones.
A half-time penalty competition for the youngsters was held and in the family room there was a party with disco, games and food for the youngsters.
The Celebration of Youth initiative is all part of Guisborough Town FC’s drive to get more involved and interact more directly with the local community – young and old.
A Club spokesman said: “We have a thriving youth section at the club, and we wanted to make them the focal point of our Celebration of Youth initiative.
“We also want to demonstrate strongly to the residents of Guisborough and the surrounding area that we are a family club here and exist for the benefit of the whole community, and this Celebration of Youth idea is concrete evidence of our commitment to the local area and its people, particularly the young,” added the spokesman.
There will be another Celebration in the warmer days of Spring along with a mini World Cup tournament in Mat. A new web site http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/guisboroughtownfc01 has been set up which all the Junior teams are encouraged to add their own reports etc.
Watch out for other events throughout the year.
Goals by Liam McPhillips and Luke Bythway earn the Priormen 3pts in the 2-1 victory over Stokesley on 10th December.
